5th Annual DENT Pro-Modified National Championship Demolition Derby took place on Sunday, May 26th 2002 at the spectacular Kil-Kare Raceway Park in Xenia, Ohio and the sold out crowd was given a display of the most incredible pounding of any demolition derby. It's a show most will never forget.
120 champion drivers from across the nation came and competed on Kil-Kare Speedway's asphalt track, in the country's toughest demolition derby. When the non-stop bone-crushing action concluded, Jeff Clark Jr. from Ohio was the single surviving driver, and was named the 2002 DENT Pro-Modified National Champion. Jeff Clark Jr. took home the coveted Franklin-Root Award, the DENT Championship Ring.
2001 National Champion Lloyd Kirkham of Indiana was unable to retain his title and past 2000 National Champion Ron Stepro of Indiana made it to the feature but did not get into the top 3. 1999 National Champion Scott "Ziz" Zizelman of Ohio did however put on another display of great driving with a second place achievement. Three-time Mad Dog Winner, Michael "Slam Man" Decker of Ohio and Andy "The Show" Hanson of Minnesota were real crowd favorites for what they do best, put on a show. But the real crowd pleasers for the 2002 DENT National Championship were Mad Dog Award Winners, Troy Wisecup, Jim Shuman, Todd Yoho, Glenn Sisco and Kevin Gaffin.
Fans enjoyed watching the exciting show that included 4 qualifying Heats, an exciting Super-Stock Class "Slam-Off" intermission show and the final Feature showdown. The 20 car Feature was run "until the death" - which was the last car running to make that last hit. Back by popular demand was "The ENFORCER" - an 11,000 pound wrecking machine used to punish any sandbagging drivers who failed to deliver their required hits. If any drivers don't want to fight - we'll bring the fight to them!
During the intermission between the 4th Heat and the final feature, DENT hosted a Super-Stock Class "Slam-Off" - a special 23-car Super-Stock 1980 and newer demolition derby. WTGR FM97.5 The Tiger and WPFB 105.9 The Rebel competed in the action with their very own cars and celebrity drivers in a personal vendetta to determine whether Rock will rock or Country can hog-tie em! Well, the 105.9 The Rebel was victorious and Ron Hodges of Michigan driving the Rebel car did win the event. Jerry Smith was the Super-Stock Mad Dog Award Winner. The $2,000 Purse was split between the two of them.
WELCOME PARTY
On Saturday May 25th the night before the big event, drivers, crew, family, friends and fans came out for the DENT VIP party at COACH'S Bar and Grill with live music, good food and drink. A special thanks to our friends at COACH'S for the great time.
